This model is powered by a 9V battery, providing continuous protection, even during power outages. This easy-to-install unit includes a test button to verify the detection electronics are working as intended. Install UL listed smoke alarms on every floor of your home, in hallways, inside bedrooms, and outside of sleeping areas and replace smoke alarms every 10 years. Ionization sensing alarms may detect invisible fire particles (associated with fast flaming fires) sooner than Photoelectric alarms. I've had my alarm for five years. Its main benefit is its small size, specially these days where each and every bedroom is supposed to have its own smoke detector. It gets superior battery life as well, I only had to replace the battery it came with just as soon as. However I did have a problem with false alarms due to dust creating up inside of it. The truth that the room has a ceiling fan did not assist. This unit is troublesome to clean inside. The small slots in the front of the unit go to the horn, not the ionization detector. A vacuum cleaner will not be able to throughly suck up the dust that will eventually create up inside the front cover. There front cover is not meant to be removable.
If you've got pets and/or a ceiling fan then, maybe a bigger unit with lots of slots for painless vacuuming would be improved.
